“Anacin, what the hell is that ?” Asked a friend of mine when he saw me writing this article. Well, no wonder if you ask so, since here in Asia, especially in our country Indonesia, that medicine is still rarely prescribed by the doctor as pain relievers. However its already well known in US and Europe.
“Aha…I see, so Anacin is a medicine which is good as pain relievers.”

History
Anacin is one of the oldest brands of pain relievers in the United States. In fact, its first beginning sales is in the 1950s. Early Anacin radio commercials can still be found in public domain Old Time Radio shows and dramas of the 50s. These commercials claim Anacin was being actively prescribed by doctors and dentists at the time, treats “headaches, neuritis and neuralgia”, and that it contained “a combination of medically proven ingredients, like a doctor’s prescription” but didn’t specify those ingredients.
Variants
Anacin has several different variants, based on their each formulas
- Anacin Regular Strength – contains 400 mg aspirin and 32 mg caffeine.
- Anacin Extra Strength – contains 500 mg aspirin and 32 mg caffeine.
- Anacin 81 – contains 81 mg aspirin.
- Aspirin Free – contains 500 mg paracetamol (acetaminophen)
- Anacin 3 – Acetaminophen
Anacin, nowadays, has become more than just a pain relievers. On recent advertising, its described like this ” Cast away gloom , depression…as is relieves headache pain fast”.
